This Zen Cart tutorial is the final installment in a two part instructional series that tells zen cart users how to create and manage redeemable coupons. In this segment, we will talk about setting up coupon restrictions so that, for example, the coupon applies to only to certain products or categories. This is a very useful feature that zen cart provides natively, which means that you don’t need to install any modules/addons/plugins or the like in order to attain this functionality.
To do this, click the restrictions button to set them up. When using Coupon restrictions in zen cart, it’s usually best to start with the setting for the Categories of ‘top deny’. This makes it so that the Discount Coupon will not work with any product or category in your store. Next, you will need to add the categories the coupon is applicable to, if there are any. You may only need to add individual products. Filling out these specifications will the use of the Discount Coupon.
Your customers can view these restrictions using the discount coupons link in the information sidebox. This is also where the customer can enter the discount coupon redemption code to view any limits placed on the coupon. When a customer adds an item to their cart and proceeds to checkout, they will be presented with a field in which to enter a coupon code on the Payments page. After they imput in the code, and press Enter, your system will check to make sure it’s valid. If it is, and the item/s in their cart have not been restricted, then a Success message will appear on their screen. Their order total will then be appropriately adjusted automatically.
